The Shelter Islands comprise two small, 46 and 29 meter high islands and a further 18 islets and sometimes tiny rocks in the mouth of Doubtful Sound in the Southland region on the South Island of New Zealand . The islands are located about 1 km southwest of Secretary Island and about 1 km northwest of Bauza Island , and the island group of the Nee Islets begins about 2 km northeast .
