from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sher-Dor-Madrasa is an Islamic school ( madrasa ) in the Uzbek city of Samarkand. The ruler of Samarkand Yalangtush Bakhodur had the Sher Dor Madrasa and the Tilya Kori Madrasa built on Registan Square in the 17th century . Sher – Dor means something like containing tiger . It was constructed by the architect Abdujabor . The decor of the madrasa is not as fine as the architecture of the 15th century ( The Golden Age ). Nevertheless, this madrasa is one of the most valuable buildings in Samarkand because of the harmony of the large and small rooms, the fine pictures and mosaics, its monumentality and the functional symmetry.
