Sherlook is a card game by Silvano Sorrentino that was released by Kaleidos Games in 2017 . In 2017, the game was recognized as a “game hit for families” at the Austrian game award game of games .

Background and game material

The game Sherlook is a game in the style of a classic comparison puzzle in which the other players must identify differences on two picture cards to be compared. The game material consists mainly of 40 almost identical picture cards, on the back of which the differences to the other cards are marked. There are also 10 number markers with the values 1 to 10 and 10 victory point markers each with one, two or three points; the markers with the three dots also show the orientation of the picture cards for the respective round.

Game flow

At the beginning of the game, all picture cards are shuffled and placed in the middle of the table as a pile with the color side up. The number markers are placed around the playing field, next to them are the green and larger victory point markers, on which the orientation of the cards is shown as a shuffled and face-down pile, and the other two types of victory point markers as separate piles.

The game runs over ten rounds in which two picture cards are compared. At the beginning of each round a green victory point marker is revealed and the top two picture cards are laid out according to the orientation shown. All players start looking for differences on the cards at the same time and each player can take a number board at any time if he thinks he knows the number of differences. Once a number card has been taken, it cannot be put away again and each number can only be selected by one player. The last player has to take a board without any further time if all other players have already taken one.

After all players have a number board, the round is evaluated. To do this, the two picture cards are turned over and the number of differences on both cards is added. If a player has hit the number of differences exactly, he receives the green victory point marker with three points. The player closest below the value gets the yellow marker with two points, and the player closest above the value gets the red marker with one point. Unallocated tokens are removed from play.

The game ends after the tenth round, when all green markers are used up. The winner of the game is the player who has the most victory points at the end; in the event of a tie, an additional round is played and the winner of the same wins the game.
