Shimun XIII. Dinkha

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mar Shimun XIII. Dinkha was patriarch of the Chaldean Catholic Church with the title Patriarch of Babylon of the Chaldeans in Salama ( 1662 - 1692 ). However, he ended communion with Rome and became patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East . He chose his residence in Qodchanis . The reason for the separation was the hereditary transmission of the patriarchy, which is not recognized by the Catholic Church. This made him the last hereditary patriarch of the Chaldean Catholic Church. As a result, Rome founded its own patriarchate of Babylon . Shimun XIII. Dinkha was thus the last patriarch in the hereditary line of the Chaldean Catholic patriarchs after Shimun X. Eliyah (1600–1638), Shimun XI. Eshuyow (1638-1656) and Shimun XII. Yoalaha (1656–1662) and thus founded a hereditary line of autocephalous patriarchs, which until the death of Patriarch Shimun XXIII. Eshai persisted in 1975 .

Shimun XIII. Dinkha died around 1700 . He was succeeded by Shemʿon XIV Shlemon .
