Shirabiki

The Shirabiki ( Japanese 白 引 ) is a tool used by the Japanese woodworker. It is used to apply lines ( scribing ) to workpieces. It is a strip of steel with a beveled cutting edge on one side . The one-sided bevel is essential for perfect guidance on a ruler or a comparable guide.

The Kogatana , especially in its variant as Kiridashi-Kogatana , is also used as Shirabiki.

The marking on the material timber with such a tool allows a more accurate, finer and safer work than with a round pointed tack would be possible, as the scriber (not fall out of the direction) especially with "cracks" along the wood fiber to "bleed" tends.
