In 1988 an all-female mountaineering group from Japan reached the summit via the west ridge.

On October 11, 2012, Mick Fowler and Paul Ramsden climbed the Shiva over the northeast pillar ( North-east buttress ), which they simply baptized "Bug des Shiva" ( Prow of Shiva ). For this achievement the two climbers received the Piolet d'Or award .
