Shiva Burlesque was an American rock band . Their style has been described by Allmusic's Andy Kellman as a mix of post-punk and folk-rock .

The band was founded by singer Jeff Clark and guitarist Grant-Lee Phillips , later strengthened by bassist James Brenner and drummer Joey Peters. Their first album came out in 1987 and earned them good reviews on Melody Maker and Rolling Stone . For the next album in 1990 Greg Adamson came on the cello, and Paul Kimble replaced the bassist. Then they dissolved. Phillips, Peters and Kimble later formed the band Grant Lee Buffalo , Jeff Clark continued as a solo artist with the support of Adamson and Brenner.
