The Shmidt Point is a headland at the Loubet coast of Graham lands north of the Antarctic Peninsula . It marks the northern foothills of the Arrowsmith Peninsula .
Participants in the Fifth French Antarctic Expedition (1908-1910) under the direction of polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot sighted them for the first time in 1909 and made rough measurements. The first aerial photographs were taken in 1937 during the British Graham Land Expedition (1934–1937) under the direction of the Australian polar explorer John Rymill . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1954 after the Soviet Arctic explorer Otto Juljewitsch Schmidt (1891-1956).
