Short is an impact crater in the extreme south of the moon's front , south of Moretus crater and northeast of Newton . The rim of the crater is heavily eroded, the interior largely flat.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the British mathematician, optician and telescope maker James Short .
