Zef Shoshi

Zef Shoshi (born February 19, 1939 in Tirana ) is an Albanian painter .

life and work

Shoshi graduated from the artistic Lyceum Jordan Misja in Tirana from 1952 to 1956 and studied painting at the Repin Institute for Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Leningrad . From 1962 to 1965 he worked as a teacher at the Jordan Misja and from 1965 to 1966 as a painter and restorer at the Institute for Cultural Monuments in Tirana.

Zef Shoshi is one of the most famous portrait painters of Albanian Socialist Realism . His portrait of Enver Hoxha was printed in almost every school book. Shoshi prefers to paint scenes from factory life, from large construction sites and from country life as well as decorative handicrafts and traditional costumes. The painting The Turner / Die Dreherin (1969) was shown at documenta 14 in Kassel.
