Shunji Kono

Shunji Kōno ( Japanese 河野 俊 嗣 , Kōno Shunji ; born September 8, 1964 in Kure , Hiroshima Prefecture ) is a Japanese politician and has been the governor of Miyazaki Prefecture since January 2011 .

Kōno graduated from the (central state) high school of the University of Hiroshima , studied law at the University of Tokyo and then became a civil servant in the Ministry of Self-Government . In 1990 he studied abroad at Harvard Law School . In 2005 he came to the Miyazaki Prefectural Administration, where he headed the "Department of General Affairs" ( sōmu-bu ). In 2007 he became lieutenant governor under Hideo Higashikokubaru . He resigned in October 2010 to apply to succeed Higashikokubarus, who was not running for a second term.

The gubernatorial election on December 26, 2010 decided Kōno with the support of DPJ , LDP , Kōmeitō , incumbent Higashikokubaru and the Association of Agricultural Cooperatives Nōkyō and other local business associations with around 78% of the vote and 41% turnout clearly against the independent Shōichi Chūman, Daizen Miyamoto and the CPY candidate Tadakatsu Tsushima for themselves. He took office on January 21, 2011. In the 2014 gubernatorial election , Kono was re-elected for a second term.
