Gubernatorial elections in Japan 2014
In 2014, 13 gubernatorial elections were held in Japan : due to the regular expiry of the mandate in the prefectures of Nagasaki , Ishikawa , Kyōto , Shiga , Nagano , Kagawa , Fukushima , Ehime , Okinawa , Wakayama and in Miyazaki as well as due to resignation in Tokyo and Yamaguchi .
February 2: Nagasaki
In Nagasaki the election took place on February 2nd and the official announcement was made on January 16th. At the same time, by-elections to the prefectural parliament were held in three constituencies. Governor Hōdō Nakamura ran for a second term and was supported by LDP, Kōmeitō and DPJ Nagasaki. The only opposing candidate was Toshihiko Haraguchi, general secretary of the CPY prefecture association. Campaign issues included Nakamura's economic and employment policy and the land reclamation work in Isahaya Bay. 1.16 million citizens were entitled to vote.
Voter turnout fell by almost 20 points to 41% compared to 2010 - it was highest in the city of Matsuura , where the mayoral election and the election of the city parliament took place at the same time, at almost 76% , and lowest in the city of Nagasaki with under 34%. Nakamura was safely re-elected with over 80% of the vote.

February 9: Tokyo
In Tokyo, Governor Naoki Inose resigned in December 2013 after only one year in office. The new election was scheduled for February 9th ( one day earlier on Hahajima : February 8th), so the election campaign started on January 23rd. About 10.8 million citizens were registered as eligible to vote (as of January 22nd), 7.4 million of them in the districts ( Tokyo ), 3.3 million in the independent cities and less than 0.1 million in the rural areas Parishes (Nishi-Tama county and islands) of the prefecture.
The 16 registered candidates were:
- Yōichi Masuzoe (65), former LDP and Kaikaku senator on proportional representation and minister of social affairs, with support from the LDP , Kōmeitō and the trade union federation Rengō Tokyo

Shigenobu Yoshida , former diplomat and candidate for governor in 2012, and Setsuo Yamaguchi, real estate appraiser and long-term candidate , have withdrawn previously declared candidacies .
Campaign topics included preparations for the 2020 Summer Olympics, nuclear power, the national constitutional debate and disaster control.
The turnout was 46%, a decrease of more than 16 points compared to 2012. February 23: Yamaguchi

March 16: Ishikawa
The election in Ishikawa took place on March 16, the election kicked off on February 27. Three candidates applied: Governor Masanori Tanimoto (68) was aiming for a sixth term in office with the support of the prefecture associations of LDP, DPJ, Kōmeitō and SDP, challengers were the former democratic prefectural member of parliament Yūichirō Kawa (42) and the CPJ-backed Yoshinobu Kimura (62) . April 6: Kyoto
In the gubernatorial election in Kyoto on April 6 (campaign opening March 20), Governor Keiji Yamada applied for a fourth term. His candidacy was supported by the major bourgeois parties. The only opposing candidate, with the support of the CPY, was pediatrician Nozomu Ozaki, chairman of Min'iren Kyōto. July 13: Shiga
In Shiga, Governor Yukiko Kada's second term expired on July 19. The gubernatorial election took place on July 13th, the official announcement was made on June 26th. August 10: Nagano
Nagano's governor Shuichi Abe's first term ended on August 31. The gubernatorial election in Nagano took place on August 10th, the election opening was on July 24th. Against the CPY-supported Shunpō Noguchi and another candidate Abe was confirmed with non-communist all-party support (LDP, DPJ, Kōmeitō, Jisedai, Yui, SDP) with over 80% of the votes in office. August 31: Kagawa

October 26: Fukushima

November 16

Ehime
In Ehime, governor Tokihiro Nakamura (54), supported by the prefectural associations of LDP, DPJ and Minna no Tō, applied for a second term and clearly prevailed against the communist Kiyuki Kōji (71). The voter turnout reached an all-time low of 42.9%.
Okinawa
