The following gubernatorial elections were held in Japan in 1947 .
April 5, 1947: Uniform regional elections
In the first phase of the first uniform regional elections, the governors of all 46 prefectures (excluding Okinawa, which is directly administered by the US military ) were elected by the people for the first time on April 5, 1947 .
Kochi
In the prefecture of Kochi , Governor Kawamura Wakaji was banned from office a few months after taking office by the occupation authorities ( SCAP / GHQ ). Momoi Naomi , who had lost the first gubernatorial election in Gifu to Mutō Kamon in April , applied for the new election in his home prefecture of Kōchi in December with the support of the Liberal and Democratic Party and won.
