Tokyo prefectural parliamentary election 2013

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The prefectural parliamentary elections in Tokyo 2013 ( jap. 2013 年 or 平 成 25 年 東京 都 議会 議員 選 挙 , 2013-nen / Heisei 25-nen Tōkyō-togikai giin sichyo ) took place on June 23, 2013; the mandate of the old parliament ended on July 22, 2013. The 127 members of the parliament of the Japanese prefecture Tokyo stood for election by non-transferable individual voting in seven single and 35 multi-mandate constituencies, including 16 two-mandate constituencies. As of June 2, 2013, there were 10,761,055 eligible voters in the prefecture, an increase of around 120,000 compared to 2009.

The Democratic Party (DPJ) had been the strongest party in Tokyo since the last regular parliamentary election in 2009 , despite losing seats through party converts and in by-elections - most recently in December 2012 . Governor has been Naoki Inose since December 2012 , who was elected in the early gubernatorial election 2012 with election recommendations only by LDP , Kōmeitō and Ishin , but with an overwhelming majority as the successor to the resigned Shintarō Ishihara .

The election was considered an important test of the mood for the national upper house election in July 2013, the national LDP chairman and Prime Minister Shinzō Abe characterized the parliamentary election in Tokyo prefecture as a "quasi national election" ( 「準 国 政 選 挙」 , jun-kokusei perpendicular ).
