Midori no Kaze ( Japanese み ど り の 風 , "Green Wind") is a no longer active political party in Japan . As a party, it was founded in November 2012 by the members of the previous faction of the same name in the Sangiin , the upper house of the national parliament , together with the recently joined Shūgiin member Makoto Yamazaki (proportional representation of South Kanto, previously Democratic Party ).

Midori no Kaze was founded as a parliamentary group in July 2012 by four Sangiin MPs who had resigned or been excluded from the governing parties, namely Kuniko Tanioka ( Aichi , formerly DP), Yasue Funayama ( Yamagata , formerly DP), Kuniko Kōda ( Saitama , formerly DP) and Akiko Kamei ( Shimane , formerly New People's Party ).

Midori no Kaze opposed the agreed VAT increase, possible participation in the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership (TPP) and nuclear power.

When the party was founded, the former social democrat Tomoko Abe (Shūgiin, proportional representation South Kantō) declared that she also wanted to join the party. Eriko Fukuda , who defeated former Defense Minister Fumio Kyūma in the 2009 Shūgiin election in Nagasaki constituency , left the Democratic Party on November 16, 2012 to join Midori no Kaze. The previous Democrat Akihiro Hatsushika (Shūgiin, constituency Tokyo 16) followed on November 19

When the Nippon Mirai no Tō was founded on November 28, 2012, the Midori no Kaze decided not to run in the upcoming Shūgiin election in 2012 ; the Shūgiin MPs who had joined or who were willing to join joined the Mirai no Tō. As an independent Sangiin faction, Midori no Kaze should initially continue to exist. At the end of December 2012, after the split between the Nippon Mirai no Tō, Shizuka Kamei and the Sangiin MP Makoto Hirayama, the Midori no Kaze joined, which means that it regained its legal status as a political party at the turn of the year before the state party funding was allocated for 2013.

Kuniko Kōda left the party in March 2013 to switch to Minna no Tō for the upcoming Sangiin election . In May 2013 Tomoko Abe, now the only member and chairman of the Nippon Mirai no Tō, joined Midori no Kaze. In the 2013 Sangiin election , all members of the Midori no Kaze lost their seats. With only two MPs left in the national parliament, the party was again reduced to the status of a “political association” and has now practically been dissolved - the last two MPs, Kamei and Abe, no longer state that they belong to Midori no Kaze in 2014.
