Shyam Selvadurai (born February 12, 1965 in Colombo , Ceylon ) is a Sri Lankan- Canadian author.

He is of Tamil- Singhalese descent and a Christian. In 1984 he moved to Canada with his family. Selvadurai received a BFA from York University and now lives in Toronto .

With his novel Funny Boy published in 1994 Selvadurai won the Books in Canada First Novel Award . For the novel Swimming in the Monsoon Sea , published in 2005, he received the Lambda Literary Award in the literature for children and adolescents category .
