The sia Abrasives Industries AG based in Frauenfeld ranks among the world's top three suppliers of grinding systems . It develops, produces and sells complete grinding systems tailored to specific requirements and applications for processing surfaces of all kinds of workpieces.

The founding time
- 1867 Foundation of a chemical factory in Frauenfeld
- 1875 First production of flexible abrasives at the current location
- 1914 conversion to a stock corporation
sia Abrasives has been the only Swiss company to produce flexible abrasives since the turn of the century.
From humble beginnings - the manufacture of emery paper and cloth was first documented in 1875 - the company has developed into one of the world's leading manufacturers in the industry.
The Modern Age
- 1991 Separation of ownership and operational management

- 1998 Development of a new worldwide appearance
- 1999 IPO
- 2000 Celebration of 125 years of mechanical production of flexible abrasives
- 2001 Expansion into the nonwoven abrasives area with the acquisition of sia Fibral Ltd. (UK)
- 2005 Expansion into the market of foams coated with abrasives (abrasive sponges) with the acquisition of sia Abrafoam Ltd. (UK).
- 2008 Takeover of sia Abrasives by Robert Bosch GmbH
- 2012 Commissioning of a new production facility (Maker 5)
- 2015 announcement of job cuts. Around 260 of the 720 jobs will be cut and relocated to Eastern Europe and Germany.
40 years ago sia Abrasives had fewer than 150 employees. Today, over 1,000 employees deal with all aspects of the grinding process, be it in research and development, production or in marketing and sales.

The sia Abrasives product range extends from classic flexible abrasives to ultra-fine abrasives , non-woven abrasives and foam abrasives . Application areas for flexible abrasives are the wood, panel and automotive industries as well as the metal and composite sectors.
