Sibylle Dotti

Sibylle Dotti (* 1913 in Berlin-Schöneberg ; † December 17, 2003 in Lage (Lippe) ) was a German art teacher, painter and graphic artist.

life and work

After graduating from high school, she studied New English Philology in Berlin and at the State University for Art and Art Education . In 1937 she passed the state examination for art education and in 1939 the assessor examination. Teaching assignments in Austria and Berlin followed in the years up to 1943. In 1943 Sibylle Dotti was evacuated to Bohemia with a Berlin school. In 1945 she came to Lage on a train that was evacuating students and teachers (including Anna Schönborn and Hildegard Sauerbier ) due to a damaged locomotive. From 1945 to 1948 Sibylle Dotti initially worked as a freelancer, became a member of the Lippischer Künstlerbund and co-founder of the group Junge westen . She was an art teacher at the Stadtgymnasium in Detmold from 1948 to 1978, where she became head of department and from 1970 director of studies. From 1962 to 1972 she worked on the guidelines committee for art education in North Rhine-Westphalia , where her particular concern was always the consolidation of art into art history.

She was a holder of the Federal Cross of Merit, a cultural award winner from the Lippe regional association and the holder of the town of Lage's honor thaler. The foundation named after her uses the foyer of the former Technikum Lage for exhibitions with works by artists from the region.

Etching, hand drawing, photomontage, pen and chalk drawings were her preferred design tools.
