Security role

The security role or station bill is the plan for organizing security on board seagoing vessels. It includes the tasks of each crew member on board seagoing vessels and is structured according to rank , name, tasks and the individual dangerous situations . Each crew member has an assigned role in various emergency situations.

Maritime shipping

The safety roll is compiled by the master and usually by the 3rd officer on watch or the safety officer . The security officer puts together groups to combat the dangers and to leave the ship. Everyone learns their task in relation to the security role and becomes familiar with the devices that may be used. In addition, a suitable assembly point (sample station) will be set up on the ship . Every crew member must be there when emergency signals are heard. The following dangerous situations are defined:

Signals meaning Alarm giver
······· - General alarm Alarm bell, Typhon
- - - - - - - - - (continuous) Signal to leave the ship Alarm bell, Typhon

The need to conduct the security role arises from the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS). The general alarm is also defined there as described. The signal to leave the ship is defined according to SOLAS to the extent that it is defined individually for each ship in the security role. Often it is "short-long", but it can also deviate from it and z. B. be a PA announcement or a continuous tone.

Inland shipping

In inland navigation, there are safety roles for passenger and cabin ships on inland waterways in Europe. It includes the tasks of the crew members in dangerous situations. The security role includes a security plan that records the storage location of all components of the emergency equipment for fire fighting , emergency prevention, rescue measures, etc. Furthermore, rules of conduct for the captain, nautical staff, service staff and passengers are listed at

  • Fire
  • Man overboard
  • evacuation
  • Average.

Safety rollers on passenger ships must be clearly legible on every deck. People with limited mobility must be taken into account.

The precise content of such a security role is determined by the competent authority. For example, in the area of application of the Rhine Ship Investigation Regulations, this is defined by the Central Commission for Navigation on the Rhine (ZKR) and checked by the responsible ZSUK authorities (Central Investigation Commission).

Such a security role includes u. a. Areas that are intended for use by people with reduced mobility, escape routes, emergency exits, assembly and evacuation areas, location of life-saving appliances and dinghies, fire alarm systems, fire flaps and fire extinguishers and other safety equipment.

On cabin ships, abridged plans of the safety role must be available in four languages in each cabin.
