Security gate

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A security gate is a structure for the safe closure of a shipping canal in the area of a dam or a canal bridge, i.e. of sections in which the water level is above the surrounding area. By lowering a steel sealing body adapted to the sewer bed, in the event of damage (e.g. a dam break), the drainage of an entire sewer section is prevented and the flooding of the surrounding area is reduced. There are safety gates that close automatically as soon as the canal water level has dropped a certain amount.
Security gates can also be used to drain sewer sections, e.g. B. for inspections or to repair damage to the seal of the sewer bed.
