The United Nations Security Force in West New Guinea (German security force of the United Nations in West New Guinea , UNSF ) was a UN peacekeeping mission based on UN Resolution 1752 (XVII) (GV) of September 21, 1962 and took place from October 1962 to April Held in 1963.

The aim of the UN mandate was to control the ceasefire and to secure public order in western New Guinea . This was preceded by tension and limited military fighting between the Netherlands and Indonesia . While the Netherlands wanted to give their colony independence after a corresponding vote by the people of Dutch New Guinea , Indonesia claimed the region for itself.

The headquarters of the Mission was in Hollandia, now Jayapura . The mission was led by Major General Said Uddin Khan from Pakistan .

UNSF was the police arm of the United Nations Temporary Executive Authority (UNTEA), an administrative mission of the United Nations that ensured the smooth transition of sovereignty over Western New Guinea from the Netherlands to Indonesia.
