Sichongxi hot springs
The Sichongxi hot spring bath ( Chinese 四 重 溪 溫泉 , Pinyin Sìchóngxī wēnquán ) is a tourist hot spring bath in the municipality of Checheng in the district of Pingtung , in the south of Taiwan . The name comes from the nearby Sichongxi River .
history
The thermal springs were first opened for tourism during the Japanese rule over Taiwan (1895-1945). They became famous through the visit of the Japanese Prince Takamatsu , who spent his honeymoon here in 1930. For the prince's stay, a bath made of false cypress wood and marble was built, which has been preserved to this day and is one of the main attractions of the area.
Properties of thermal springs
The thermal springs are fed by the Taiwanese Central Mountains , on the western foothills of which they are located. The water is drinkable and rich in minerals and sodium hydrogen carbonate . The water is said to have healing properties. Its temperature is 50–60 ° C all year round , with a pH of 7.62. Many of the bathing facilities are located outdoors so that bathers can enjoy the view of the landscape. More recently, parks for walkers have been created around the thermal baths, in which many butterflies can be observed.
