Takamatsu (Prince)
Prince Nobuhito of Takamatsu ( Japanese 高 松 宮 宣仁 親王 Takamatsu-no-miya Nobuhito-shinnō , born January 3, 1905 in Tokyo , † February 3, 1987 in Shibuya , Tokyo ) was the third son of Emperor Taishō ( Yoshihito ) and Empress Teimei and the younger brother of the emperor Shōwa ( Hirohito ).
Takamatsu married Tokugawa Kikuko , daughter of Tokugawa Yoshihisa , on February 4, 1930 . He became head of the princely house ( shinnōke ) Takamatsu-no-miya (formerly Arisugawa-no-miya ), one of the four imperial branch families who were entitled to inheritance on the chrysanthemum throne, in the event of a lack of successor from the main house, but his marriage remained childless. From the mid-1920s until the end of World War II, Prince Takamatsu served in the Imperial Japanese Navy . He left her in 1945 with the rank of sea captain (Japanese kaigun taisa ).
After the war, Takamatsu Prince became a volunteer of various organizations for international cultural exchange in the fields of art, sports and medicine. He is remembered in Japan for his work as a member of the Imperial Household. The Praemium Imperiale art prize was donated in 1989 in his memory.
