Beads under sail

The beading boat type belonged to the Lommes that were used for fishing on the Frischen Haff in the former German province of East Prussia . The beading was about 5.20 m - 5.50 m long and had a special feature of a two-part fish box , called "de Bünn" or "dat Bünnen", which was permanently installed amidships and served as a live fish container. The fish box was limited by two transverse bulkheads . It was provided with a deck and had an opening in the longitudinal direction of the boat that could be closed by two hatch covers, through which the fish entered the box or were brought out again with the "Hamen", a landing net specially designed for the fish box . The outer planks of the fish box were perforated so that fresh water was constantly rinsed through the box.

Beads were mainly used for eel fishing . The fishing community that shared the boat usually consisted of three men.
