As Sidepipes a special is the exhaust system for motor vehicles (mostly sports car ) meant in which the exhaust tail pipes are not behind, but mounted laterally on the vehicle.

Since side pipes in front-engined cars are closer to the engine and are often designed without a rear silencer , this leads to lower exhaust back pressure and thus higher performance . Sidepipes are not allowed in most European countries for street legal cars if they do not comply with the noise standard and if the exhaust pipe on the passenger side is directed upwards or horizontally outwards. Sidepipes are very popular with US vehicles, as they have the necessary space between the floor and the body to retrofit them, if not available from the factory.
