The Jaguar XK-SS was a high-performance sports car that emerged from the Jaguar D-Type in 1956 .

The XK-SS had the six-cylinder engine of the Jaguar D-Type with 3442 cc and 174 kW. The top speed was 250 km / h because of the comparatively large windshield. All vehicles were created by converting the D-Type that was still in the factory and were intended for the US market.

The vehicles received a weather canopy, a windshield and a luggage rack. The tail fin typical of the D-Type was omitted. The side mufflers (side pipes) were retained.

By February 12, 1957, 17 of these converted vehicles had been built. On the evening of that day, a fire broke out in the factory halls, destroying 270 finished or almost finished vehicles, including all D-Type models that had not yet been converted. Later, two D-Type models that had already been delivered to customers were converted to XK-SS versions. The XK-SS had no direct successor.
