The Jaguar F-Type is a sports car from the British car manufacturer Jaguar , which has been available since May 2013.

The F-Type celebrated its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show in 2012. At the 2011 IAA , Jaguar presented the C-X16, a very near-series study of the coupé version. At the start of sales, the F-Type was available in three versions: F-Type (250 kW), F-Type S (280 kW) and F-Type V8 S (364 kW).

Jaguar sees the completely newly developed F-Type in the tradition of the E-Type discontinued in 1974 . It is significantly smaller than the XK / XKR sports car, which was offered until July 2014 . The body is based on a new platform with an aluminum chassis, which will later also be used for the successors of the XK and XF models .

Body versions

The F-Type came onto the market on May 25, 2013, initially as a convertible with a soft top. The coupe version was presented during the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. The market launch in Europe was in the second quarter of 2014. Jaguar presented an extensively revised variant of the series at the beginning of December 2019.

Furnishing

The soft top of the convertible can be opened and closed at speeds of up to 50 km / h while stationary and while driving. From a speed of 100 km / h, a wing at the rear automatically extends to increase the contact pressure on the rear axle.

In the V6 models, the exhaust system consists of a centered, twin-pipe exhaust tailpipe, while the V8 version has a four-pipe exhaust system with two exhaust pipes on the left and right. The two more powerful versions are equipped with an active exhaust system as standard, with which valves in the exhaust line are opened from a speed of 3000 rpm in order to produce a richer sound. In the V8 version, the bypass valves in the exhaust system can also be opened manually using a sound button on the center console. These equipment features are optionally available in the smaller models.

In contrast to other Jaguar models, the instrument panel is equipped with two analogue round instruments combined with a 5-inch TFT color display. The central ventilation nozzles of the standard air conditioning system only extend from the upper part of the dashboard when required and are otherwise covered for a flat appearance.

drive

Two V6 engines and one V8 engine - all with supercharging - as well as a four-cylinder turbo, whose power is transmitted to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission, are available for the F-Type. In the current model year there is also a six-speed manual transmission. In contrast to the sedans from Jaguar, the top speed of the F-Type is not limited to 250 km / h. A start-stop system is part of the standard equipment. The F-Type S and V8 S models also have an adaptive sports suspension that regulates the damper setting independently and continuously. In the F-Type Coupe, the engine range remains unchanged. The V8 version has an improved second-generation rear differential lock and a torque vectoring brake.

SVR

At the Geneva Motor Show 2016 Jaguar presented the "F-Type SVR". With an output of 423 kW (575 PS), this is the temporary top model in the F-Type range. The "F-Type SVR" is always available with all-wheel drive and both as a coupe (from € 138,400) and as a convertible (from 145,400 €). The model has been on sale since June 2016.

Lister LFT-666

In August 2018, the British car manufacturer Lister Cars presented the LFT-666, a model limited to 99 units based on the F-Type Coupé. The LFT-666 is powered by the five-liter supercharged engine, which has a maximum output of 490 kW (666 hp). In March 2019, the model was presented as a convertible limited to ten copies.

Registration numbers

Since the market launch up to and including December 2019, a total of 7,981 Jaguar F-types have been newly registered in the Federal Republic of Germany.

C-X16

Jaguar C-X16

With the Jaguar C-X16, Jaguar presented a near-series study of the later F-Type at the IAA 2011. The platform and the body of the C-X16 are made of aluminum, as in the later production model. The study has a three-liter, supercharged V6 engine with 280 kW (380 hp) and an electric motor with 70 kW and 235 Nm. The electric motor draws its energy from a 1.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and supports the petrol engine with a boost function, similar to the Kinetic Energy Recovery System in Formula 1. The battery is charged by regenerative braking via an electro-hydraulic system the rear axle when braking. Jaguar specifies the consumption of the study as 6.9 liters / 100 km. The C-X16 should be able to drive purely electrically at up to 80 km / h.
