The 37 km long river rises at an altitude of around 170 m in the vicinity of the village Starowlany (Gmina Kuźnica (Powiat Sokólski) ) in the Podlaskie Voivodeship , flows roughly parallel to the border with Belarus in a northerly direction through the Gmina Sidra and further into it some distance east past the town of Dąbrowa Białostocka and flows into the upper reaches of the Biebrza near the village of Rogożynek (town of Lipsk ) in the Biebrza National Park.
