Siegburg War

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Siegburg War was a dispute over the Vogteirechte in the Vogteien Troisdorf - Wolsdorf and Siegburg . The disputing parties were Duke Wilhelm II von Berg and the Abbot of Michaelsberg , Pilgrim von Drachenfels . The war lasted from 1402 to 1407.

Claims to power

For Burg spell the Abbey belonged to the Bailiwick Siegburg, but not the bailiwick umlegende Troisdorf-Wolsdorf. While the abbot in Siegburg had appointed a Vogt of his choice, namely Johann von Loen-Heinsberg, he did not succeed in this in Troisdorf even with the requested support of the Archbishop of Cologne .

procedure

Troisdorf was then set on fire in 1402 and burned down completely. After the duke confirmed his claims, the city of Siegburg joined the duke. As a result, Siegburg was also set on fire from the abbey in 1403.

consequences

In a settlement, Duke Wilhelm II achieved in 1407 that he could provide the bailiffs of Siegburg after the death of the Siegburg bailiff. Until 1609 the abbot was only the spiritual head.
