Siegfried Damm (born May 6, 1958 in Biedenkopf ) is a German trade unionist and former federal chairman of the Association of German Road Carriers (VDStra).

Life

Siegfried Damm lives in Battenberg (Eder) in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district in Hesse. He grew up in his parents' house, the "Gaststätte Damm" in the Hatzfeld district of Eifa. Damm is one of the first trainees in the recognized road maintenance profession, which he began in 1975 as a road maintenance trainee at the Hessian Road Construction Office in Marburg (Lahn), in the Battenberg (Eder) road maintenance department. He has been married since 1983 and has two daughters and two sons.

Professional

From 1978, Damm worked as a road and route maintenance officer at the Battenberg and Frankenberg road maintenance depots, where he also did his basic military service from 1978 to 1979. From the mid-1980s onwards, he was involved in the vocational training committee at the Hessian State Office for Land Management and Geoinformation as well as in examination committees for the administration's own examinations, intermediate and final exams of the road keepers in Hesse. From 2001 to 2018 he worked as federal manager of the trade union of road and transport workers ( Cologne ) in the Association of German Road Carriers and managing director of DONAR Verlag GmbH.

From September 22, 1997 to September 18, 2017, he was federal chairman of the trade union for road and transport workers, operational services, technology and administration in public and private road systems, which was founded in 1895 and is a member of the DBB Beamtenbund and collective bargaining union . At the beginning of his training as a road attendant in 1976, he became a member of the VDStra, the only trade union in the road sector. At the beginning of his trade union activity in 1980 he was initially deputy shop steward, shop steward and deputy district chairman Kassel / Bad Arolsen in the VDStra.-Landesverband Hessen. He was appointed youth chairman in 1982 by the VDStra's state youth leadership in Hesse and was elected in 1985 by the VDStra's federal board as a member of the federal youth leader. When he was elected federal chairman of the VDStra in 1997, he had to give up his mandate as state chairman in accordance with the statutes.
