Siegfried Jüttner

Siegfried Jüttner (born March 9, 1941 in Wuppertal ) is a German Romanist .

Live and act

Jüttner was born the son of a blacksmith . He studied Romance languages, history and philosophy at the Universities of Cologne and Clermont-Ferrand . In 1966 he passed the state examination for teaching at grammar schools in French and history at the University of Cologne. Two years later he did his doctorate on the subject of basic tendencies in theater criticism by Friedrich Melchior Grimm . He then worked as a research assistant at the University of Düsseldorf until he completed his habilitation in 1974. In 1975 Jüttner became a scientific adviser and professor at the University of Düsseldorf . In 1983 he was appointed professor for French and Spanish literary studies including Latin America at the University of Duisburg . Jüttner retired on April 1, 2007.

Jüttner's main research interests include French and Spanish Enlightenment literature . From 1982 to 1986 Jüttner was secretary of the German Society for Research in the 18th Century . Since 1987 he has been the spokesman for the European Enlightenment in Literature and Language at the University of Duisburg. From 2002 to 2007 he headed the DFG project Culture Transfer in Europe: The Interest in Germany in the Spanish Press at the Time of Enlightened Absolutism (1736–1808) . Jüttner was also co-editor of the series European Enlightenment in Literature and Language .
