Siegfried Luther (born August 5, 1944 in Klepps ) is a German manager . He is a member of the supervisory boards of Evonik Industries AG and Schaeffler AG and acts as chairman of the audit committee. Until 2005 he was CFO and Deputy CEO of Bertelsmann AG.

Career

Luther studied law and business administration at the WWU Münster , passed both state law exams and was awarded a Dr. jur. PhD. His professional activity led him to Bertelsmann AG in 1974 as head of the central tax department. In 1985 he was appointed Head of Finance and in 1990 a member of the Bertelsmann AG Executive Board. Under three CEOs (until 1998 Mark Wössner, 1998 to 2002 Thomas Middelhoff, from 2002 Gunter Thielen) he was CFO and headed the Corporate Center. After Thomas Middelhoff left the company , he took over the post of deputy chairman until the end of his board activities in 2005. From 1989 to 2015 he was also managing director of Reinhard Mohn Verwaltungsgesellschaft, a financial holding through which the descendants of Reinhard Mohn hold shares in Bertelsmann AG.

In addition to and after his position on the executive board, Luther held a number of supervisory board mandates, often as a member or chairman of the audit committee: u. a. Gruner + Jahr AG (1991 to 2007), RTL Group SA (2000 to 2012), WestLB AG (2002 to 2004, 2006 to 2010), Infineon Technologies AG (2006 to 2010), Evonik Industries AG (since 2007), Schaeffler AG (since 2010). Luther worked for many years in the public supervision of auditors: from 2001 to 2004 he was a member of the newly created quality control advisory board at the Chamber of Auditors. With effect from 2005 an independent auditor oversight commission (APAK, today APAS) was set up, of which Luther was a member from the beginning until 2013. From 1997 to 2015 he was a member of the board of trustees of the non-profit ZEIT Foundation Ebelin and Gerd Bucerius. He has been married to Ute Hülsenberg since 1973. The couple has three children. Luther is said to be one of Martin Luther's relatives ; he is said to have descended from his brother Jacob.
