Siegmund Mewes (born February 26, 1951 ) was a football player in the GDR Oberliga for SC Aufbau / 1. FC Magdeburg and multiple junior and B national players.

Mewes began his career as a soccer player at the age of seven with the BSG Rotation in Magdeburg . In 1961 he moved to BSG Aufbau Elbe and in 1965 was delegated to the upper division SC Aufbau Magdeburg, later 1. FC Magdeburg. There he went through the youth teams and during this time was also used once in the junior national team of the GDR. After finishing school, he took up an apprenticeship as a car mechanic. From 1971, the 1.85 m tall Mewes was part of the FCM's upper division squad. With 21 league appearances, he immediately became a regular player in the 1971/72 season and won his first title as a newcomer with the GDR championship. Then came further titles every year: 1973 cup winners, 1974 and 1975 further championships. In 1978, 1979 and 1983 he was another three times in the victorious Magdeburg Cup team. He missed the most valuable title of Magdeburg, the 1974 European Cup Winners' Cup , because it was not used in the final.

When he ended his career as an active soccer player at 1. FC Magdeburg at the age of 34, he had played 296 league games and scored 56 goals for his team. He was also used in 40 European Cup games, in which he scored another six goals. He played other international games with the GDR junior election, in which he was called up five times. Mewes, who had also been trained as a mechanical engineer, worked as a coach at 1. FC Magdeburg for a short time, in the 1985/86 season as an assistant coach for the second team playing in the third-rate regional league , and in the 1990 season / 91 Head coach of the league team to succeed Joachim Streich . Under his leadership, the FCM rose to the amateur camp of the third-class Oberliga Nordost . Mewes was fired as a coach before the season ended.

Today (April 2014) he works as a rehabilitation sports teacher in the vocational support organization Saxony-Anhalt in Staßfurt.

His son Mark Mewes was a goalkeeper a. a. active at 1. FC Magdeburg and FSV Zwickau .
