Siegmund Rahn

Siegmund Rahn is a German sports scientist and university lecturer .

Life

Rahn completed his doctoral thesis at the German University of Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig in 1969 (title: "On the systematic application and rational design of performance assessments in modern physical education"). He wrote textbooks on children's and youth sports, on planning and controlling training , analyzed physical education in socialist countries in research work, did research primarily on aspects of training science (as head of the children's and youth sports department at the DHfK on training for young talent in particular), including on "Age development in the design of basic and advanced training" and on Requirements for high-performance sport.

In 1980 Rahn's PhD B was accepted  at the DHfK. The title of the thesis was "Outline to perfect the performance building in the stages of the basic and advanced training: a contribution to the further development of the conception of the long-term performance building".

In 1990, Rahn presented at the DHfK a “study guide for distance learning from technical schools on the subject of theory and methodology in children's and youth sports”. In 1991, in the Leipzig sports science articles , he discussed problems of talent search, talent recognition and talent promotion, as well as the topic of “training fairness among children and young people in schools and clubs”.

For the book “German University for Physical Culture Leipzig 1950–1990 - Development, Function, Working Method” published in 2007, Rahn wrote the chapter “Research in young athletes”.
