Sier (Ameland)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sier was a settlement on the Dutch island of Ameland . The village was west of Hollum and had its own port.

The steady and strong westerly current has eroded large parts of the western island over the centuries. The exact time is no longer known, but at some point the residents had to leave their village and the village of Sier disappeared into the North Sea .

More than 200 wells have been found in Sier, which suggests that it must have been a fairly large village. In these wells, from beach-Turf or stave wood were built of herring barrels, they found shards of medieval Töpfergut and some undamaged jars.
