The Sierra de Castril is in the northern Spanish province of Granada , north of the village Castril lying mountains and nature park .

It is directly adjacent to the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas . Covering altitudes from 855 to 2,138 m, the Sierra de Castril belongs to the Betic Cordillera . It consists of limestone and forms a rugged mountain landscape that is crossed by the Río Castril from north to south . The river valley and its tributaries are the main attraction for numerous hikers with their gorges and waterfalls.

The vegetation is characterized by pine and oak forests . The traditional forms of use include logging and grazing , the latter mainly through the Segura sheep . The outstanding representatives of the animal world are griffon vultures , otters and wild cats .
