Sig: Ar: Tyr is a Canadian Viking Metal - band . Her name is a punctuated transliteration of three runes from the Old English Futhorcs and, according to the band's own statements, was also influenced by the work of British fantasy writer Michael Moorcock .
history
It was founded in 2003 as a solo project by the multi-instrumentalist "Daemonskald" in Ontario . In the same year the EP The Stranger was recorded. Two years later, the debut album Sailing the Seas of Fate was released on Morbid Winter Records. In 2013 the project grew into a band, alongside the founder consisting of guitarist Michael Grund and drummer Nich Ireland, who previously played in the symphonic metal formation Battlesoul, and bassist Morgan Rider, who is also active in the groups Vesperia and Crimson Shadows. The band has been under contract with the Valkenburg label Hammerheart Records since 2015 .
