Sigismundus Lauxmin

Sigismundus Lauxmin (also Sigismundus Lauxminus , Lithuanian: Žygimantas Liauksminas ; * 1596 , possibly not until 1597 ; † 1670 ) was a Lithuanian philosopher , rhetorician and musicologist .

Sigismundus Lauxmin taught as a professor at the Academia et Universitas Vilnensis Societatis Iesu . He was famous throughout Europe for his writings, especially for Praxis oratoria et praecepta artis rhetoricae (practice of eloquence and laws of rhetorical art, 1648, 14 known editions in various European countries) and as a rhetorician of music for Ars et Praxis mvsica (art and practice of music, 1667). In 1655 he wrote a textbook on Greek grammar called Epitome institutionum linguae Graecae . In addition, he wrote other grammatical writings, poems and praise.
