The Sigma Center is a private specialist hospital for interdisciplinary psychiatry , psychotherapy and psychosomatics with integrated neurology, internal medicine and general medicine at two locations in Bad Säckingen . Patient care is fully inpatient in three departments as well as partial inpatient in a day clinic and an early detection center for mental disorders. The holistic medical therapy concept is supported across schools by Sigma-Therapy GmbH and further developed according to recognized medical-scientific guidelines. The organizational hospital operation is carried out by its own company, the Zentrum für Akutmedizin GmbH.

history

The treatment concept is based on the principle of interdisciplinary cybernetic medicine from psychiatry, psychosomatic medicine and general medicine and was developed by the doctor, neurologist, psychosomatic specialist, psychiatrist and psychotherapist Erich W. Burrer in the early 1990s. Because of the high staffing ratio required for the holistic concept, clinical implementation could only be made possible with the establishment of an own clinic: from 2000 initially in a medical association Prof. Dr. Burrer & Kollegen and from 2007 onwards under the name Sigma-Zentrum as a specialist hospital for psychiatry , psychotherapy and psychosomatic medicine . Today the Sigma Center is one of the largest private clinics for psychiatry, psychotherapy and psychosomatic medicine in Germany. With a new therapeutic that went into operation in 2014, bed capacity will grow from 120 to 160 beds in single occupancy by 2015.

In January 2017, the outpatient clinic was expanded to include an early detection center for mental disorders for discreet advice and help-seekers in the early stages of mental problems.

In March 2020, the early detection center moved to Freiburg to the newly founded Sigma Institute in a medical center near the Diakoniekrankenhaus. The Sigma Institute in Freiburg offers every privately insured person seeking advice and individual integrative counseling and, if necessary, appropriate therapy. The outpatient clinic and early detection center offer discreet access and take into account the fact that the boundaries between simple, temporary and serious psychological impairments are often blurred. The indications include, for example, somatoform pain disorders, sleep disorders, eating disorders, depression and stress disorders (also "burnout"), psychoses, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive and addictive disorders, trauma-related disorders, long-lasting or frequently recurring pain with and without a clear physical cause, ADHD im Adulthood and others. The early detection center in Freiburg is - like the outpatient department - connected to the Sigma center in Bad Säckingen, which integrates the most important areas in several departments and the connected day clinic: interdisciplinary psychiatry and psychotherapy, psychosomatics, internal medicine, general medicine with naturopathic treatment, neurology and Sleep medicine, social medicine and addiction medicine, geriatric psychiatry, psychotherapeutic medicine, systemic therapy, couple and family therapy as well as intensive care in a protected ward.

The Sigma Center is a member of the regional MetroBasel network.

concept

Garden view of the Sigma Center

The Sigma Center follows the model of holistic, interdisciplinary medicine based on the cybernetic principle. This includes an interactive process-oriented diagnosis and form of treatment for somato-psychological and psycho-somatic diseases. From a cybernetic point of view, there is a permanent correlation between mental and psychosomatic illnesses due to neurosomatic networking. Natural somato-psychic and psycho-somatic interactions take place in this context through information, interaction, feedback and self-control, summarized through a circular interaction.

Analogously, every medical treatment involves a circular intervention in the conscious and unconscious experience of a person, as well as in his somatic processes and his social behavior . The aim of this cybernetic “psychosomatic” is therefore a circular diagnosis or treatment. This includes the activation of the self-organization of soma and psyche, also in terms of environmental, family and social medicine .

The Sigma Center is organizationally divided into several departments and is managed across departments by the medical directorate with concept and pharmacological supervision. The clinic has medical training authorizations for psychiatry (24 months) and psychosomatic medicine (36 months).
