Red silk room with two pompous silver armor

The silver weapon hall in the Dresden Residenzschloss was opened in September 2017. It is located in the partially reconstructed, so-called red silk room on the 2nd floor of the Georgenbau between the giant hall of the armory and the small ballroom . The exhibitions in the Münzkabinett can also be reached from here. The “Rotseidene Zimmer” was originally an antechamber from which the stairs in the Georgenbau and the former electoral / royal private rooms could be reached. Later it was the audience chamber of the Saxon queen. Saxon handicraft businesses were also involved in restoring the area.

Exhibits

The room thematically connects the tournament and parade weapons shown in the giant hall with the silver treasure of the coin cabinet and is used by the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden for the permanent exhibition of the armory. Are shown silver parade armor and representation for the elector made armor and plated rapiers and daggers , which were created around 1580-1610 for Saxony elector Prince and the court. The masterpieces of Dresden goldsmithing include two silver foot tournament armor with antique historical representations, which Elector Christian I had made in 1591, and a pomp rapier for Duke Johann Georg I.
