Silence Is Golden is a song written by Bob Gaudio and Bob Crewe in 1964. It was first released as the B-side of The Four Seasons hit Rag Doll .

The cover version of the British band The Tremeloes was a number one hit in the UK charts , in Austria , Ireland , New Zealand and Norway in 1967 and reached number 11 on the US charts . In Germany , the song came in eighth.

Over a million singles were sold worldwide and the song was awarded a gold record . The Tremeloes also released an Italian version under the title E in Silenzio .
