The Tremeloes are a British pop band that had great success, especially in the 1960s.

Band history

The Tremeloes were founded in the late 1950s as a backing band by Brian Poole . The original members were Poole's schoolmates Alan Blakely, Ricky West, David Munden, and Alan Howard. In this composition, the musicians had numerous hits from 1962 to 1965 as "Brian Poole & the Tremeloes", including the number one hit Do You Love Me , Twist and Shout and Someone Someone . However, the band was almost exclusively successful in their native Great Britain.

After Brian Poole left, Chip Hawkes joined as the new singer and the group continued under the name "The Tremeloes". With a style that is no longer rocking, but a bit more melodic, they were able to build on their early successes straight away. The Cat Stevens song Here Comes My Baby was not only a European success, it was also the first time that they landed in the USA.

Her biggest hit and still best known today is Silence Is Golden . The song was originally a B-side of the Four Seasons , but in the Tremeloes version it was a number one hit in the UK , a top 10 hit in Germany and Austria , and also number eleven on the US charts .

Tremeloes - (Call Me) Number One

With hits like Even the Bad Times Are Good , My Little Lady , (Call Me) Number One (a number two hit) and Me and My Life , they were constant guests in the UK's top 10 in the second half of the 1960s -Charts. Blakely and Hawkes in particular took up pen more and more often and wrote their own hits. The latter two top 10 hits came from the band members Blakely / Hawkes, all of which were produced by Mike Smith. Derived from the Italian original song Non illuderti mai ( Orietta Berti from May 1968), they wrote the English text entitled My Little Lady to the melody by Mario Panzeri / Lorenzo Pilat , which appeared in September 1968 and reached number 6.

With (Call Me) Number One from October 1969, they almost managed to jump to number one with a second place. Me and My Life from August 1970 reached fourth place on the UK charts. With these titles, the Tremeloes successfully placed themselves as representatives of the melodious beat . The album Master should cement the success of the single Me and My Life . Master was released by the Tremeloes by their record company without the consent of the Tremeloes, with some unfinished tracks being completed by strange musicians, which angered the Tremeloes so much that they let themselves be carried away in interviews to statements that their previous music was music for the idiot and only now was it becoming demanding Make music. Unfortunately, many fans did not follow this change.

The follow-up single Right Wheel, Left Hammer, Sham flopped and the 1971 single Hello Buddy marked their final departure from the English charts. Her LP May Morning , which was supposed to provide the background music for a Jane Birkin film , also remained a work for the drawer . The songs were finished, but never released on record.

With the interim departure of West (1972; replaced by Bob Benham from the English group "Jumbo"), Hawkes retired after a car accident (1974) and the departure of Blakely (1975, died 1996), the time of the original Tremeloes was after one previous release of the LP Shiner and the singles Good Time Band as well as a reissue of Someone, Someone in 1975 over. In 1976 the band around Dave Munden and Bob Benham brought out the LP Don't Let the Music Die . The idea was to release this LP under the name “Space” to suggest that a completely new band was at work here, but in the end this idea was rejected. The single Be Boppin 'Boogie / Ascot Cowboys supplemented this LP, which was to be the Tremeloes' last work by 1992.

The Tremeloes are still touring today as an oldie band, partly with the support of Brian Poole.
