Words is a pop song written and sung by the French-Tunisian singer and songwriter FR David from 1981. It was released as a single and on the album of the same name and in 1982 became a hit across Europe.
history
Rock guitarist FR David found himself in financial crisis, after which he accepted his agent's advice to write a danceable song. Words was recorded in the winter of 1981, although the synthesizers were initially only used as a necessity, as David had forgotten his electric guitar before leaving the recording studio.
Words was published in France and Monaco as early as the end of 1981 . In France it reached number 2 on the charts, after which it was published worldwide. The photograph on the 7 "single was taken by the photographer Vassili Ulrich; the song When the Sun Goes Down is on the B-side of the record . Words reached number one in the charts in numerous countries, including Germany, Austria and Switzerland , Sweden, Norway and South Africa: It was a summer hit in Germany in 1982 and stayed at the top of the charts for eleven weeks, selling over eight million copies worldwide and being awarded the Golden Record in Germany .
The song was covered regularly in the following decades and remained the only major chart success for FR David. In the 2000s, he re-recorded Words in French and English with the French singer Winda .
