Gianni Bedori (born November 25, 1930 in Mantova , † January 21, 2005 in Milan ) was an Italian musician ( saxophone , flute , bassoon ) in the field of modern jazz , fusion and pop music, who also made a career as Johnny Sax .

Life

Bedori was trained as a clarinetist at the Bologna Conservatory. He formed a quartet with pianist Giuseppe Emmanuele, bassist Alberto Amato and drummer Tony Arco. He also worked with Giorgio Gaslini in the 1960s . Under the pseudonym Johnny Sax he took part in the music film Quelli belli ... siamo noi (1970); under this name he presented some pop and easy listening records from the 1970s . In 1973 he composed a jazz suite dedicated to Pablo Picasso ( Dedicated to Picasso ). In 1974 he played as a bassoonist on Astor Piazzolla's album Libertango . In 1977 the album The Man was released on Atlantic Records . He also played in Giorgio Buratti's quartet ( Jazz Forms for Export ) and in the fusion band Neos ( Indefinita Atmosfera ). At the Umbria Jazz Festival 1994 he performed as a duo. In 2004 the album ControTempo (with Gaslini and Enrico Intra ) was released, on which Bedori used the C-Melody saxophone , followed by Vento D'Africa , which was only released in 2007 .
