Bart Kaëll (actually Bart Gijselinck; born August 2, 1960 in Oudenaarde ) is a Belgian singer.

Life

Bart Kaëll became interested in singing at an early age. At the Oudenaarde State Music School he learned to read notes and play the guitar. He later studied at the Herman Teirlinckinstituut in Antwerp . As a singer he appeared for the first time at the summer coastal concerts Zomeraperitief of the Nationale Loterij. In 1982 he took part in the TV show Baccarabeker . Bart Kaëll won the audience award in the Flemish singers' singing competition. In the same year Bart Kaëll appeared under his stage name for the first time.

In 1983 Bart Kaëll first took part in the Belgian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest and came third with his symphony title . Four years later he came second in the preliminary round with his single Carrousel . Numerous other single releases followed until 1989 when the debut album Bart Kaëlls, Bart Kaëll appeared. The collaboration with Roland Verlooven led to a number of successful singles in Flanders, some of which achieved platinum status. In 1992 he recorded the duet Gek op haar with Helmut Lotti, then only known as a pop singer in Belgium , which appeared on Helmut Lotti's 1992 album Alles wat ik voel .

From 1989 Bart Kaëll also worked as a moderator. In Belgium he presented programs such as the Mini Playback Show , the Sound Mix Show and, from 1994, the Wheel of Fortune . After the removal of the wheel of fortune in 1997, Bart Kaëll turned back to music. Numerous albums followed, of which only Dag & Nacht was able to place in the charts. With Lisa del Bo he recorded the duet Eenzaam zonder jou in 1998 , which reached number 19 in the Flemish charts. The single Dansen in Bahia , released in 2008, reached number 6 in the Flemish charts and thus became the most successful single in Bart Kaëll's career to date, following Zeil je voor het eerst in 1990, which had reached number 2 in the Flemish charts.

Kaëll, who came out as gay in June 2010 after years of rumors, is married to TV presenter Luc Appermont (* 1949).
