Silicon Image is a US company headquartered in Sunnyvale , California that develops and manufactures semiconductors .

Overview

Silicon Image was founded in January 1995 and is traded on the NASDAQ under the abbreviation SIMG. According to its own information (2005), the company has more than 425 employees.

On January 3, 2007, Silicon Image took over the company sci-worx GmbH (with locations in Hanover , Braunschweig and Hamburg) from Infineon . On October 22, 2009, COO Harold Covert announced that the two development locations in Germany should be closed at the end of the year, affecting around 150 of the 325 employees in the company's development department. In the future, the two remaining locations in the United States and China will be strengthened and the number of employees increased to 250 by 2010.

Products

Silicon Image develops integrated circuits in the field of high-speed data transmission, examples are circuits for controlling the DVI and SATA interfaces. They are also used for the secure transfer, storage and display of media data ( HDMI interface). ICs from Silicon Image are used both in computers (LC displays, graphics cards) and in consumer electronics devices (e.g. digital TVs, HD TVs, DVD players, set-top boxes).

The products are divided into three product lines: products for controlling data storage devices (SteelVine), circuits for controlling LCD or plasma digital screens (VastLane (HDMI / DVI)) and TV circuits (PinnaClear).

Company history

  • 1997 In June, the delivery of PanelLink ICs for the control of digital screens begins.
  • In 1998, the cooperation with Intel begins on the worldwide, open specification of the digital transmission from the graphics card to the digital screen (DDWG).
  • 1999 Silicon Image goes public in October.
  • In June 2000, the first circuits for HDCP transmission via the DVI interface were delivered.
  • A SATA interface with 3.125 Gbps is presented in August 2000.
  • In April 2006, Silicon Image supplied Toshiba with the first ICs for HDMI transmission in notebooks with HD DVD .
  • In 2009 Silicon Image closes its German branches at the end of the year.
  • January 2015: Silicon Image is acquired by Lattice Semiconductor Corporation for $ 600 million.
