Simón Zerpa

Simón Alejandro Zerpa Delgado (born August 28, 1983 ) is a Venezuelan politician . Simón Zerpa has been Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance in the Maduro cabinet since October 26, 2018 .

Origin and education

His father, Iván Zerpa Guerrero, is currently Venezuela's Ambassador to the People's Republic of China and, as secretary in the Venezuelan National Assembly, was a close associate of Cilia Flores during her tenure as President of the National Assembly. Simón Zerpa has a degree in international relations with a postgraduate degree in international constitutional law.

Career

Zerpa was "external director" of Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) and until February 2018 PDVSA Vice President with responsibility for finances. However, he had to give up this post, since he has belonged to the group of Venezuelans sanctioned by the USA since July 26, 2017; according to Reuters, it was about corruption .
