Sima Wei

Sima Wei (* 271 ; † May 27, 291 ) was a Chinese prince of the Western Jin Dynasty . He was the second of the eight princes who fought against each other for power in ancient China in the War of the Eight Princes .

Life

Sima Wei was a younger son of Emperor Jin Wudi and a brother of Jin Huidi . Sima Wei was prince of Chu. At the end of April 291 he was appointed city commander of the troops in the capital Luoyang . At the end of May of the same year, Sima Wei led troops against Chinese Prime Minister Sima Liang , who was killed. As a result, Sima Wei was declared a traitor by a public notice, arrested and executed on May 27th. In the sources, Sima Wei is counted among the eight princes, although the actual military clashes of this so-called conflict did not begin until the year 300.
