Simei Ihily (born April 10, 1959 in Lifou ) is a former French football player .

Career

The player from the French overseas territory New Caledonia was added to the squad of the French first division club SEC Bastia in 1978 , which had been in the UEFA Cup final in the previous season. Nevertheless, the newcomer was able to establish himself in the team and pushed Jean-Marie De Zerbi onto the bench. The following years were marked by the departure of many top performers, which meant a secure regular place for Ihily, but brought the club to the brink of decline in 1980.

Despite a moderate performance in the league, the team managed to move into the cup final in 1981 ; Ihily was in the final and won the first title of his career thanks to a 2-1 win over AS Saint-Étienne . In the years that followed he remained loyal to his club and ran in the 1982/83 season in all 38 league games; after he was relegated with Bastia in 1985, he decided to leave the Corsican club.

For the 1985/86 season he signed with second division competitor Olympique Nîmes , where he held a regular place until he suffered a serious injury after a few weeks. Although he managed to return, he could not fully recover from the consequences of the injury; In view of this, he made the decision in 1987 at the age of 28 to end his career. Afterwards he returned to his New Caledonian homeland and took up the profession of sports teacher.
