Simmermacher

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Simmermaker is an old trade of the craft . The Simmermaker makes measuring and other vessels according to the old Simmer measure .

In the Hessian area z. B. corresponds to a Simmer 32 liters . In Fränkisch-Crumbach, on the other hand, a Simmer fruit was 28.08 liters. This measure, like many predecessors of the metric system , varied considerably in different areas.

Probably the last Simmermacher in Germany had his workshop in Fränkisch-Crumbach . In the Groß-Umstadt museum "Gruberhof" a complete set of the wooden measuring vessels he made for grain, flour and sugar including the tools and implements he used can be viewed.

The Simmermacher has long since died out as a job title, but it is still popular as a surname.
